LOLER Testing
At L Witcomb Agriculture, we are an approved test centre offering LOLER examinations on-site to ensure your lifting equipment remains safe and compliant.
All lifting equipment must undergo annual inspections in line with the HSE’s Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).
These regulations place legal responsibilities on individuals and organisations that own, operate, or are responsible for lifting equipment. This applies to any business whose staff use such equipment, whether it’s company-owned or not. Every lifting operation must be properly planned, supervised by a competent person, and carried out safely.
LOLER also states that lifting equipment must be:
-
Suitable for its intended purpose
-
Appropriately marked
-
Subject to regular, documented ‘thorough examinations’

Any faults or issues found during inspection must be reported to the responsible person and, if necessary, to the relevant authority.
Thorough examinations are required in the following situations:
-
Before initial use (unless covered by a valid Declaration of Conformity dated within the past 12 months)
-
Following installation, reinstallation, or site relocation
-
When exposed to conditions that may cause wear or deterioration, potentially leading to unsafe operation

Full records of inspections must be maintained. Where defects are identified, these must be reported to the user of the equipment, and if the equipment is hired or leased, to the hiring party as well. Depending on the setting, reports may also need to be sent to the relevant authority (e.g. HSE for industrial sites or local councils for others).
